LOL Obama, Daily 24 February 2010

20100224

I've stayed off the 'Obama's a Socialist' bandwagon for the most part (at least with these LOL Obamas), but something about this photo suggested that caption.

It was either that or, "Привет, товарищ", but that would mean figuring out how to use Cyrillic lettering in photoshop, and I didn't want to bother.

Also, this would have maded more sense as February 21st's LOL Obama, given that the Communist Manifesto was originally published on that day in 1848.

I don't think September 11th should be an official holiday, but I do think we should never forget the attacks of that day, the nature of those attacks, the folks who perpetrated those attacks, and the cultural cesspool that spawned those attackers. Rudy Giuliani's words from 2006 still remain relevant.

I think things like Pres. Obama's call for a 'national day of service' today smell like an attempt to twist the meaning and obfuscate the memory of that day.

After poking around 911DayOfService.org, I see something that looks like a typical liberal-minded whitewash of the events.

Their mission statements sums up all that's wrong with their approach:

Our mission is to honor the victims of 9/11 and those who rose to service in response to the attacks by encouraging all Americans and others throughout the world to pledge to voluntarily perform at least one good deed, or another service activity on 9/11 each year. In this way we hope to create a lasting and forward-looking legacy -- annually rekindling the spirit of service, tolerance, and compassion that unified America and the world in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

Screw that. We must not forget the horror of that day. We must remain angry at the scum who caused such wanton destruction. "Tolerance", and "compassion", aren't going to prevent the next attack. The attitude exemplified by that mission statement are the same ones manifest by those whose kneejerk reaction was to pose the question, 'what did we do to cause them to hate us so much?'. Guess, what, even if we were ten times as compassionate and tolerant as a nation, or even one hundred times, those impotent, tiny membered, rage filled excuses for piles of goat dung would have had a desire to bring those towers down. We must continue to chase them down, destroy their ability to plan, and transform, contain, or destroy the places where jihadi terrorist fester.

We can improve ourselves, and service in of itself is a good idea, but tying this theme into remembering the events of September 11, 2001 is just part and parcel with the usual fuzzy headed bleeding heart, blame America first, nonsense.

I'll let them get the final word, though, I think the about section from the press release regarding ServiceNation sums up the creepiness of all this pretty well:

ServiceNation (www.servicenaton.org) is a national campaign to increase service opportunities and elevate service as a core ideal and problem-solving strategy in American society. Reaching an estimated 100 million citizens through its 200-plus member groups, ServiceNation played a leading role in the drafting and April 2009 enactment of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which authorizes the greatest expansion of national service in America since FDR created the Civilian Conservation Corps. Now that the Act has passed, the ServiceNation coalition is working to inspire a powerful culture of volunteerism in our country through the promotion of national days of service and strategic partnerships. We envision an America in which a commonly asked question is, “Where do you serve?”

It Came From the Comments . . .

In response to the Reading is Fundamental daily photo, Bill commented:
wtf is a libnany?

My lengthy reply:
According to the Obama Administration Newspeak Dictionary:

Libnany (pronounced lib-na-NEE) --- Any one of a number of different officials drawn from various governmental departments that oversee the proper education (or re-education in the case of those previously misled) of the masses to think in ways consistent with Hope and Change. Shortened from "Liberal Nanny", to become a "Libnany" is an exulted and well compensated position, one generally reserved for those who have paid their dues as a long time community organizer, or public sector union leader. Not to be confused with a "Libforcer" whose primary job is to prevent wrongthink with more physical forms of persuasion, the "Libnany" is the ears, eyes, and soothingly didactic mouthpiece for the Administration, ready to report and correct wrongthinking whenever it crops up.

I forgot to add that the term Libnany may also be applied to the place where Libnanys meet, coordinate and maintain educational literature as well as Hope and Change approved computers that are blocked from visiting non-approved websites. Most Libnany buildings were converted from existing libraries, as it was deemed inconsistent with Hope and Change to allow citizens unmonitored access to non-approved media, so it was an easy and natural transition and most librarians (now may also be referred to as libnanians) thrilled at purging the shelves of wrongthinking books.

If Someone Is Really Demanding an Explanation . . .

From Megan McArdle

Obviously, if you think it's the government's job to pick economic winners and losers, and ensure that rich people lose as often as possible, then my stance is horrible and hypocritical. I will explain another time why I think that this is neither just, nor in the long-term interests of American society.

Is this really a concept that needs explanation? I think anyone who needs it explained to them that it's a very bad idea and patently unjust that the government should pick winners and losers and punish the rich, then I don't conceive of any amount of persuasion changing their minds.

I just hope that the parts of Obama's rhetoric that match the notion of picking winners and punishing the rich was just that, rhetoric, and not something he plans on putting into practice.

I am truly frightened by how many of Obama's more vocal supporters hope that his feints in that direction were more than empty rhetoric and instead part of his proposed "Hope" and "Change".

A Preview of Things to Come . . .

. . . only a matter of time, I suppose, before we have stuff like this happen here. After all, health care is something that only governments can provide, and only governments can 'fix'.

Both in Canada and United Kingdom, their systems are 'fixed' all right.
