Batting 500 with this week's picks.
Had I been gambling I would have considered it a good week (and would have done slightly better than even as I would have done the moneyline on WAS)
and Icepick was right on in the comments regarding the Eli skepticism.
Plus, a bad week for Trojans (hopefully surgery will repair Carson Palmer and get him back to being one of the best young QBs in the league)

Yeah, that was a shame what happened to Carson Palmer. Hopefully he will recover, and I hope they keep him out all of next season. Don't risk it! And the same goes for Dante Culpepper. Let those nasty injuries heal completely before trying anything.
Personally, I would have only batted .750. But unfortunately my Bucs couldn't quite get over the hump. Still, I'm hopeful about next year, especially if we can get a good right tackle and another decent lineman. The only real downer is that we'll probably be looking for a replacement for Mr. Derrick Brooks. G-d d-mn salary cap....
"Who's your favorite player?"
"Mr. Derrick Brooks."
Dude, if you liked my Manning comment, the same applies about 4-times as strongly to 'Phil's Kid' Simms. Remember the children of players-turned announcers are always only good enough to be the worst of the best or the best of the lousiest. I give you Brian Griese, PKS, Luke Walton and (ugh) Chris Collins. Let that be a lesson to you.
Seriously though, sucks what happened to Palmer. I'm glad no one is saying anything about it being a dirty play - it clearly wasn't and nobody seemed more upset about it than Kimo V.O. (no way I'm strying to spell that name from memory).
Pooh, I'm actually pretty pleased with Simms. After his first couple of games he's been fairly accurate (61.0% in the regular season), and has avoided interceptions. And of the interceptions I've seen, several were either tipped at the linie (which has been a real problem) or the receiver has run the wrong route.
Plus, Simms has been good at the two-minute drill, bringing the Bucs back late in the fourth quarter at least three times this season. (Four counting yesterday. I guaran-damn-ty that the officials always manage to find a way to rule Bucs receptions as incomplete passes late in the playoffs.) Simms ability in this regard compares EXTREMELY favorably with Brian Greise's. Greise has to be the worst two minute drill QB ever. I would go into details but my hands are starting to shake just thinking about it. Stay calm! Stay calm. Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm.
Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm.
Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm.
Ah, that's better.
And to give an idea about not throwing interceptions, Simms threw an interception every 44.7 attempts, Eli threw an interception every 32.8 attempts. Advantage: Simms!
I don't have this stat for everyone though, so I can't tell you too much about other QBs. But here are a few highlights:
Farve: 20.9 attempts/INT
McNabb: 39.7 A/I
Carr: 38.5 A/I
Brady: 37.9 A/I
Vick: 29.8 A/I
Leftwich: 60.4 A/I (!!!)
B. Johnson: 73.5 A/I (!!!!!!!)
P. Manning: 45.3 A/I
Harrington: 27.5
And one more outstinding number:
Culpepper: 18 A/I
That gets a ?? in chessplayer parlance....
I thought it was a ?!?, but whatever...
I remember reading somewhere that Simms has NEVER lead a winning two minute drive. Not is HS, not in College, not in the pros. Never. Not once. If I find the link, will pass it along, but I just saw it yesterday.
And here it is not sure were he got it. Plus he's a Skins fan so enter at your own risk...
Pooh, the "unitl this year" is a big damn qualifier! And at Texas, they were either getting blown out, or blowing people out. I doubt many QBs at top programs lead sucessful two minute drills in college. USC has been a fluke in that regard.
And for the record, here are the primary chess annotations:
!! = Brilliant, or winning move
! = Good move
!? = Interesting move
?! = Dubious move
? = Bad move
?? = Horrible or losing move
(Sometimes people get cute and use different combinations of !'s and ?'s, but these are the standards.)
Obviously, I was referring to losing move by Dante's 18 A/I.
