Burnishing My Libertarian Credibility

(via Instapundit)

After reading this post at NRO regarding a suggestion from Andrew Stuttaford that the EU buy up the entire crop of opium being produced in Afghanistan.

I can't help but think of Peter Tosh.

Things that should be legalized, or at least decriminalized; all drugs (including the recreational use of pharmaceuticals) and alcohol, all gambling, all sexual exchanges between consenting adults whether or not money changes hands, and finally posession of concealed weapons by adults without felonies who have passed a safety training course.

Black markets are cash cows for criminal and terrorist organizations while distorting law enforcement and public policy decisions. History is pretty clear on that point, you can legalize activities and still limit them, often it's far easier to control activities that are legal than ones that are illegal.
