I'll Admit It, I'm a Big James Burke Fan.
After AJ Lynch's comment regarding my Ultimate Blame post, I'd have to place ultimate blame for my original post at the feet of James Burke for putting together his Connections episodes back in the late 70s (one episode from that first series in 5 parts collected at YouTube and embedded below for your convenience, as well as elucidation).
