Sir Bob weighs in. What policy advice does Boy George have in store?

Boomtown Tory?

Sir Bob Geldof has been recruited by the Tories in Britain to proffer advice regarding poverty in Africa.

What I really want to know, has he learned to like Mondays?

Well, I will say that during the Live 8 series earlier this year, Geldof did come to President Bush's defense with regard to Africa, actually pointing out that he'd done more for Africa than other previous presidents.

I remember being a little surprised but impressed by that: you don't hear that sort of thing too much from rock and other celebs. Refreshing!

Ah, the things that will help Africa overcome its horrible poverty will never happen. It would require the First World to dump its agricultural subsidies, allow for the Green Revolution to FINALLY get to Africa, and allow for genetically modified crops. Oh, and a little thing that would look a helluva lot like re-colonization. But for various political reasons none of this will happen. Until it does, every bit of treasure is simply throwing good money after bad....
